Welcome to 1st Grade Ms. Slattery!

Ms. Lisa Slattery began her teaching career in 2010 after graduating from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Art History. While teaching preschool in East Garfield Park and then Roger’s Park, Lisa also obtained an endorsement in English as a Second Language from Roosevelt University.

Prior to joining WSD, Lisa taught in Chicago Public Schools for 8 years. While stepping away from full-time teaching to raise her own children, Lisa was a partner in a Pilates studio in the city, and spent time teaching adults instead of little ones.

Lisa returned to teaching last year with a one-year position as a kindergarten teacher in Batavia and will be joining WSD this fall as our 1st grade teacher! Lisa values educating the child as a whole and keeping the child in the center of the learning taking place. She is well-versed in multiple educational approaches including a pedagogical background stemming from the Reggio Emilia Approach (another holistic educational method). She brings a host of experience and excitement to expand into Waldorf education.

Lisa is incredibly excited to be with us and we know she is a wonderful addition to our faculty!
