School Governance

Waldorf schools are distinguished by a self-administered governance model, where faculty, trustees, administrative staff, and parents collaborate within a community spirit guided by Waldorf pedagogy. This model enables those closely involved in the school’s daily life to make policy decisions collectively across the faculty, administration, and the board of trustees. It also encourages community-wide participation and idea-sharing.

WSD operates on a Threefold social model: the faculty, administration, and board of trustees are able to act independently in their own sphere, but work together on matters pertaining to the school as a whole.

WSD is not a cooperative model where each member, including members of the parent body, hold one equal vote. Instead, decision making is collaborative within each of the three spheres, and final decisions affecting the school as a whole are made by the Leadership Council with input from the Executive Steering Committee (Board President, Administrator, Faculty Professional Development Chair).
