  • Opening Statement

    We are seeking an immediately available teacher for our combined 1st and 2nd grade class for the 2025–2026 school year, ideally beginning before February. The position is open due to an unanticipated teacher departure. The class of 11 bright and engaged students, together with a dedicated group of parents and colleagues, is a thriving and well-supported group. We are looking for a Waldorf-trained, experienced educator who is caring, steady, and committed to guiding the class for years to come.

    Essential Job Duties

    As the class teacher for grades 1 and 2, the teacher would be responsible for the following areas:

    • Create and implement a comprehensive 1/2nd grade combined curriculum while also differentiating between the two groups where needed

    • Safely and effectively manage a classroom while accomplishing learning goals and objectives

    • Teach to a wide variety of individual learning styles and needs

    • Evaluate, track, and communicate student progress

    • Hold class meetings 2-3 times a year and host parent teacher conferences for this class

    • Lead collaborative efforts with subject teachers and student support staff

    • Collaborate with and contribute to the efforts of faculty, administration, and board 

    • Work closely with parents to support holistic child development and continuity between home and school

    • Effectively use Google suite and other online technologies

    • Participate in festival and community life of the school

    • Engage in ongoing professional development and work with assigned mentor 

    • Communicate effectively with adults and children

    Qualifications

    • Completion or near completion of Waldorf Teacher Training certificate from AWSNA affiliated institute

    • Bachelors degree

    • Four or more years of lead teaching experience

    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

    • Experience with differentiated instruction and working with learning differences


    Salary and Benefits

    Salary range: $46,000 - $53,000

  • Part-time, School Year Position
    Start Date: January 7, 2026

    The Waldorf School of DuPage (WSD) is seeking a warm, grounded, and reliable Early Childhood Assistant to join our mixed-age early childhood program. This role calls for authentic warmth, good humor, joy, and genuine enthusiasm for nurturing young children. The ideal candidate approaches early childhood work with presence, gentleness, and reverence, and is eager to learn and collaborate within a Waldorf environment.

    Position Summary

    The Early Childhood Assistant works closely with the Lead Teacher to uphold a safe, warm, and developmentally aligned classroom. This role is physically active and includes caring for children both indoors and in our surrounding forested campus—year-round, in all weather.

    The Assistant helps maintain the physical space, supports purposeful activities, and engages in the daily rhythms that support the healthy development of children ages 3–6.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Follow the Lead Teacher’s guidance and uphold the classroom rhythm and expectations

    • Hold the class with steadiness, warmth, and predictable order

    • Tend to the physical, emotional, and individual needs of young children (ages 3–6)

    • Create and maintain a positive, calm classroom mood through modeling and presence

    • Supervise indoor and outdoor play, transitions, bathroom support, handwashing, clean-up, and rest time

    • Assist with preparation and care of classroom materials and the classroom environment

    • Plan and prepare weekly snacks and keep track of snack supplies

    • Help organize and carry out seasonal crafts, practical activities, and hands-on projects

    • Participate in circle time by learning and sharing seasonal poems, songs, and stories

    • Maintain safety practices during all indoor and outdoor activities

    • Communicate observations and concerns to the Lead Teacher and Administrator

    • Attend Early Childhood-specific school events such as Lantern Walk and Mayfaire

    • Support beginning-of-year and end-of-year classroom setup and clean-up

    • Participate occasionally in full faculty meetings, monthly EC department meetings, and parent meetings/conferences when requested

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Genuine love and respect for young children

    • Experience working with young children (childcare, preschool, camps, nannying, etc.)

    • Ability to model calm presence, clear boundaries, and nurturing guidance

    • Comfort engaging in a physically active day, including significant outdoor time in all weather

    • Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs and participate in floor-level play

    • Ability to follow the Lead Teacher’s direction and receive and integrate constructive feedback

    • Successful completion of Illinois background checks and health requirements

    Preferred:

    • Associate’s degree or higher

    • Commitment to Waldorf education and interest in its principles

    • Growth mindset, openness to learning, and collaborative spirit

    • Waldorf EC experience or interest in Waldorf training

    • Coursework in early childhood education or child development

    Training & Professional Development

    These trainings may be completed during employment:

    • CPR & First Aid Certification

    • Mandated Reporter / Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

    • Waldorf Early Childhood lectures, workshops, and professional development opportunities

    Hours, Compensation & Benefits

    • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM–3:15 PM (afternoon hours may vary)

    • Occasional evenings and weekends for festivals, meetings, and school events

    • Compensation: $18–$20/hour, based on experience and training

    • Partial student tuition remission available

  • Part-time, On-call / As-needed

    The Waldorf School of DuPage (WSD) is seeking warm, reliable, and adaptable substitute teachers to support our 1st–8th grade classes. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, appreciate an arts-integrated approach to learning, and can confidently step into a classroom to uphold the rhythm, expectations, and care central to Waldorf education.

    Position Summary

    Grades substitute teachers provide instructional and supervisory support when a class teacher is absent. Substitutes follow the plans provided, maintain classroom safety and rhythm, and ensure students are held with clear expectations, warmth, and respect. Substitutes may work in main lessons, subject classes, outdoor time, lunch/recess supervision, and transitions between activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implement lesson plans and classroom rhythm provided by the class or subject teacher

    • Maintain a safe, calm, and supportive classroom environment

    • Offer clear instructions and uphold consistent expectations aligned with WSD standards

    • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, and lunch

    • Communicate needs or concerns to the Administrator or relevant teacher(s)

    • Manage basic classroom tasks, such as attendance, materials preparation, and end-of-day tidying

    • Support a wide range of student needs with patience, presence, and appropriate boundaries

    • Model professionalism, reliability, and collaborative spirit with colleagues and parents

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Prior experience working with children (teaching, tutoring, camp counseling, childcare, etc.)

    • Dependability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to hold a group with warmth and authority

    • Ability to follow established plans and support consistent classroom expectations

    • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in all seasons

    • Ability to pass background checks per Illinois state requirements

    Preferred but not required:

    • Experience in Waldorf education or holistic/arts-integrated teaching environments

    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant coursework in education or child development

    • Ability to adapt quickly to changing classroom needs

    • Interest in Waldorf training or further professional development

    Compensation & Schedule

    • Hourly compensation ranges between $22-25/hr based on the class

    • On-call / as-needed scheduling with advance notice whenever possible

    • Opportunities to work across grades 1–8

    • Training in classroom expectations, protocols, and campus culture provided
