From Seed to School
30 Years of Growth, Change, and Community
Our Evolving Waldorf Journey
The Waldorf School of DuPage began in 1994 as a seed of hope—a vision shared by a small group of parents who believed in the power of Waldorf education. That fall, they opened a preschool-kindergarten program in Wheaton with just seven children and a dream to grow something lasting. A year later, our first grade class was born, and with it, the steady unfolding of a full elementary program—culminating in the graduation of our first eighth-grade class in 2003.
Over the past three decades, we’ve continued to grow, adapt, and evolve—relocating to meet our needs, expanding our community, and deepening our commitment to whole-child education. In 1999, we planted roots in Warrenville, purchasing our current building nestled on five beautiful acres of open fields and woods. Today, we are proud to be one of just three independent Waldorf schools in the Chicago area—and the only one serving the western suburbs.
A Campus That Reflects Our Values
When you step into our school, you’ll feel the difference. Our hand-painted walls, natural materials, and vibrant student work create a space that reflects our values: beauty, calm, imagination, and care. Since moving into our campus—a former pipefitters' union hall—we’ve transformed it into a space for inspired learning, including the addition of solar panels, energy-efficient lighting, and our first fully “green” classroom.
Outdoors, the land itself is a teacher. Our students learn and play year-round in fields, forest paths, and a nature-rich playground, where wonder and discovery are woven into each day. Whether through movement classes, recess, or science walks, our campus encourages connection with the natural world—an essential part of the Waldorf experience.
